North High School Bands
We work hard to provide many opportunities for our students. We strive to engage our students in making music and sharing it with our community. We are proud of the 94 students enrolled this year, which is the largest number NHS Bands has seen since the 2016-17 school year (in which 108 students were enrolled). Our moto is "Community and Excellence", Having Fun, Being Great, Working Hard!
Marching STARS Band
Our Marching STARS is comprised of all participanting band students in grades 9-12. They rehearse outside of the school day, during the summer and band camp. The Marching STARS perform the National Athem, School Song, Marching Show at half-time and provide Pep Band songs during the home NHS football games). In addition, this group travels on Saturdays to participate in Marching Band Festivals throughout the midwest during the months of September and October.
Color Guard is a group that uses flags, sabers, dance, and movement to enhance the performance of the Marching Stars. This group is a volunteer group and has auditions in the spring.
We have 2 jazz bands at North High. Jazz Bands at North High include the award winning North High Jazz 1, Jazz Too!, and Combos. Our High School Jazz Bands are auditioned ensembles that meet regularly outside the school day. They perform and compete at several jazz festivals throughout the winter and early spring.
NHS Pep Band at Sioux City Musketeers Hockey Game
Every student enrolled in band is involved in Pep Band. This band plays more popular music and helps to energize our crowds and support our teams. We play for home events, as well as community events that we are invited to attend and play. This year, we were invited to play for a Muskies game.
Indoor Drumline and Guard
Mariachi band is composed of a mixture of string and some brass instruments. This ensemble focuses on traditional Mexican Folkloric music.
